XPS 13 Shine Moment
If you were tempted to buy the XPS 13 earlier this year, its sophisticated redesign (model 9300) followed, but did not pull the trigger, which is a good thing you can look forward to. You can now get about the new laptop with the added bonus of the newest Intel Silicon.
Dell removes new XPS 13 models several times a year, sometimes at an incredible rate. However, the redesign of the new processor and physical redesign is a safe purchase for 9310 people who do not want their expensive investment to get any better in a few months.
The XPS 13 is particularly lightweight, satisfactorily thin and feels satisfactorily solid. It measures 0.58 by 7.8 inches (HWD) by 11.6 and weighs 2.8 pounds in the touchscreen configuration reviewed here. The non-touch screen versions weigh slightly less at 2.64 pounds, as they do not have the Gorilla Glass 6 coated display of the touch version. Any of those weight measurements compare to Dell's archery, the Apple MacBook Pro 13, which weighs 3.1 pounds. The XPS 13 is still much heavier than the lightest model on the market, like Acer's 1.96-pound Swipe 7 flagship.
The extra height of the XPS 13 comes with high quality materials and sleek design. The density of the build is evident when you slip the system out of its sleek white box and run your fingers over the aluminum lid and shoulders. Dell claims, to prevent scratch damage without repeatedly plugging the edges and unplugging the peripherals. More ogle comes when the lid is opened. Two color options include Platinum Silver Black Carbon-Fiber Palm Rest or Frost White with Alpine White Composite-Fiber Palm Rest. Our review unit uses the latter scheme and is very pretty. Palm rest is especially snug, and it has a UV and stain resistant coating to prevent yellowing and discoloration.
If you like the styling of the XPS 13, you will be interested to know that Dell has expanded it to the fullest, including the latest versions of the larger XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops. This is an equally comprehensive approach to the styling of the MacBook Air and the two-dimensional Apple of the MacBook Pro. Whether you are looking for an ultraportable for continuous travel or a large screen machine with extreme computing power, XPS is for you. There is also a 2-in-1 version of the XPS 13 with 360-degree keys, which allows you to turn a laptop into a tablet.
Exceptional performance even without 4K
The XPS 13 display is available in three versions, all of which have an extraordinary 16:10 aspect ratio over the much-anticipated 16: 9. The results come in the previous extra vertical space, which is very easy when you are scrolling through websites or updating documents for a long time.
Our review unit has a 1,920-by-1,200-pixel touch panel. Thanks to the aspect ratio, the resolution is slightly higher than Full HD (1,080 by 1,080 pixels), but much smaller than the MacBook Pro's Retina display or the Microsoft Surface laptop's pixel display. However, the Xperia 13 can be configured with a 3,840-by-2,400-pixel panel that leaks not only those two laptops, but also the dimensions of a standard widescreen 4K display (2,160 pixels by 2,840 pixels).

Once you've used the 4K screen, it's hard to go back to full HD with the occasional visible pixels and a little grain of text. This is because Apple and Microsoft do not offer the full HD version of the MacBook Pro or Surface Laptop 3. However, I do not really care about the screen resolution of XPS13. The longest aspect ratio is slightly higher than the 1080p display due to Dell's 100% sRGB and 90% DCI-P3 galaxy. Support. If you increase the brightness setting, I appreciate the exceptionally rated maximum of 500 nits brightness, which means the XPS 13 can also look cozy outside (even if not in direct sunlight).
So I do not recommend 4K screen via Full HD One in this case. This is an added benefit for those looking at their budget, as the 4K version increases the cost. On the other hand, I recommend staying away from Dell's entry level screen, which is the same in our review unit, except it does not have touch support. This is a shame as most XPS 13 competitors with the exception of the MacBook Pro offer touch support standards.
Tricks of miniaturization
In an excellent feat of mitigation, the 720p webcam with the IR face recognition sensor is in the middle of the entire display. This gives the laptop camera an average video quality, which means that indoor shots are a bit noisy and fuzzy compared to the quality even from midrange phone cameras. Dell says it's improved camera quality by adding a new four - piece lens and temporary noise reduction, but if you want to hold a Skype session in your room at night, you may want to use your phone. The main innovation of the camera is its small size - 91.5% of the footprint of the screen frame of the XPS 13, i.e. the bezels around it are razor-thin.
